A VSO must meet stringent training requirements to be able to provide claims assistance through the VA.

The Groton VSO has met the requirements necessary to be able to provide assistance for those looking to file all types of claims through the Department of Veterans Affairs. There is no charge for these services through the office of the VSO.

You can check accreditation status of any VSO by using the VA Office of General Council search engine. If you are working with any individual that is providing any type of claims assistance, they need to be listed on the Department of Veterans Affairs website with an accreditation number. If they are not you may be dealing with someone providing these services illegally.

Before calling to schedule an appointment to file a claim with the VSO, please file an Intent to File with the VA. This holds your effective date for one year from the date of receipt by the VA, and can be done easily online.
