PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DECEMBER 23, 2020

TOWN OF GROTON – COVID-19 UPDATE

The Groton Council on Aging will be closing The Groton Center effective immediately through March 1, 2021.  Staff will continue to report to work and will be available to our residents.  With a few exceptions, COA programs will be moving to Zoom or the Groton Channel.  Please call 978-448-1170 if you have questions regarding a program for which you are registered.  In person programming will be available for AARP Tax Preparation, Focus on Footcare, Meals on Wheels, home visits and transportation services.  Also, if you are in need of referral services, we will meet by appointment at the Groton Center should your concerns not be able to be resolved by phone.  Please refer to the COA newsletter for information on remote programs and the Groton Connects: Drive Thru Connections, a weekly drive through event.  We encourage the entire Groton community to check on one another as loneliness and isolation knows no age limit.  Together, we can end loneliness.

The Town of Groton and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are taking unprecedented steps in order to reduce the rate of spread by working proactively to reduce transmission and promote public health recommendations. We urge all citizens to exercise appropriate measures in order to reduce the risk of infection. Additional information regarding risk and containment can be found on the CDC website https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/.  Thank you for your immediate attention and cooperation with this. We will continue to update the community as information becomes available. Please keep checking the Town of Groton website and social media outlets for updates as they become available.

Sincerely,

Mark W. Haddad

Town Manager
