Underground Utility Study Committee

About

The Select Board is committed to improving the viability of Main Street in the Historic District.  The 2011 Master Plan encourages that utilities be placed underground on Main Street.  The Subdivision Regulations require that all utilities in new subdivisions be installed underground. The charge of the committee is to study the laws and regulations that require placing existing utilities underground and determine the mechanism to move this forward.  In addition, the Committee shall develop cost estimates and a plan for the implementation of placing the existing utilities on Main Street from Old Ayer Road to Champney Street underground.   The Committee shall hold public hearings and notify abutters directly impacted by this proposal.  The Committee shall provide the Board with a report of their findings.  

 

Committee Members:  The Committee shall consist of seven (7) members made up as follows:

 

One member shall be a member of the Select Board

One member shall be a member of the Planning Board

One member shall be the Department of Public Works Director

One member shall be a representative of the Historic Districts Commission

One member shall be a representative of the Electric Light Department

One member shall be representative from Verizon

One member shall be a representative from Charter Communications
