Satellite Emergency Facility FAQ

UMass Memorial Health plans to open a Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF) at 490 Main Street in Groton as part of our efforts to strengthen access to affordable, high-quality health care across Central Massachusetts.

As part of the broader UMass Memorial system, this facility will provide the same level of adult and pediatric emergency services as a traditional emergency department (ED), including a helipad for emergency transport by helicopter, beds for emergency care or observation, and certain imaging services.

Town of Groton: Excise/Tax Demand Fee Update

Effective May 1, 2026, the real estate tax demand fee will increase to $30.

The Town of Groton periodically reviews fees to ensure they reflect the cost of providing services. The demand fee is charged when a tax/excise payment becomes overdue and a formal demand notice is issued.

This change is authorized under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 60, §15, which allows municipalities to adopt a demand fee up to the state maximum of $30. The updated fee will apply to all demand notices issued on or after May 1, 2026.
